As part of the 1st Global Conference on Defending Dalit Rights (March 19-21, 2015), ICDR and the Global Conference Organizing Committee present a Call To Action: Join the Human Chain demonstration on March 21, 2015 in front of the White House (on Pennsylvania Avenue) in Washington, DC at 1:30pm to show your support and stand in solidarity with Dalit people worldwide. March 21 is recognized by the United Nations (UN) as the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The Global Conference Organizing Committee will announce their global strategy and the Declaration of Dalit Rights during the demonstration. The demonstration will also serve to implore President Obama and U.S. Congress members to support Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton’s House Resolution 566 (draft she introduced in May 2014, referred to House Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific) that calls for Congress to “condemn discrimination against Dalit people.” (read H.R. 566 draft text here)
The general public, organizations, individuals, and sympathizers to the cause and plight of Dalit people, and all people whom continue to suffer injustice worldwide, are invited and encouraged to attend.
